Tom Welch began his playing and performing career in the early 1960's. He gravitating toward the popular folk music of the era, and is deeply influenced by Bob Dylan, Pete Seeger and other contemporaries. In the 1980's, he bought an old banjo at a garage sale and fell in love with it. From that point on, he began studying Celtic, traditional folk and bluegrass music.
In addition to his "magic Banjo" playing, Tom sings, plays guitar, mandolin, and is a prolific songwriter. Tom has written and performed music from pop, to rock to country - yet, he maintains a very deep love of traditional bluegrass music.
For the last two decades, Tom has largely been writing and playing traditional folk, bluegrass and country music. For the past two years, he has been a member of the The Joan Kennedy Band. Tom's experience, versatility and playing style adds his own special "stamp" to the music.
Tom lives in Old Orchard Beach, Maine with his Wife Linda, and he continues to write and devote as much time as possible to his life's passion; music! |
